AINT IT COOL NEWS REVIEW:

September 22, 2014 | 0 Comments

Reviewed by Ambush BugLike an unsuspecting doe, this film crept up on me and formidably shot arrows of fear down my spine. THE HUNTED is a found footage film. It’s an imperfect found footage film, but still, it does have what it takes to hit you where it counts in terms of scares. The film opens stating that it is based on true events, something I’m always suspect of when I see […]
HORROR SOCIETY REVIEW:

September 18, 2014 | 0 Comments

BY: Michael Juvinall In 1960, Psycho made people afraid to take a shower. In 1975, Jaws kept swimmers out of the oceans. In 1979, Alien set the bar for terror in outer space. Now, in 2014, The Hunted will make you think twice about going into the woods. I’m not sayingThe Hunted is on the same level as those films, but it does have an intensity that’s similar to what made those classics so great. The Hunted marks the directorial debut […]
FIELD & STREAM REVIEW: Watch The Hunted, If You Dare

July 10, 2014 | 0 Comments

By: Dave Hurteau No matter how old you are or how long you’ve hunted, walking to and from your stand in the dark is spooky. On one hand, you know what’s out there. On the other, you don’t exactly—and that surge of raw fear wells up. Naturally, you push it away. “The Hunted” pulls it in close. Scary close. It does this little by little—first by telling a simple story we […]
SHOCK TILL YOU DROP REVIEW: Screams of THE HUNTED May Keep You Up At Night

August 6, 2014 | 0 Comments

Christopher Jimenez August 5th 2014, 5:07 pm Sincere is not the usual word used when it comes to horror films. Many other words come to mind, but not that one. Strange then that sincere is a word that rang in my head throughout Josh Stewart’s excellent directorial debut film, The Hunted. Is it scary? Yes it is, but also honest. It has been a while since I saw a film like this […]
GAME&FISH REVIEW: “The Hunted Will Scare You Out of the Treestand”

By Charlie Puckett As the saying goes, nothing makes a buck bigger than almost being shot. Normally. But in the remote whitetail woods of one fictitious West Virginia property, there’s something paranormally…   Read more: http://www.gameandfishmag.com/hunting/new-hunting-movie-the-hunted/
VERY AWARE REVIEW: The Hunted

July 8, 2014 | 0 Comments

Triple threat Josh Stewart writes, directs, and stars in THE HUNTED, a chilling found footage thriller set in the West Virginian woods. Though it doesn’t exactly blaze new territory within the genre (and comparisons to THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT will be inevitable), it is 88 minutes of unrelenting terror – and the third act will have you holding your breath and hiding behind the person next to you… Based on […]

BY BLAIR HOYLE on SEPTEMBER 9, 2014 Josh Stewart is perhaps best known amongst fans of the horror genre for his starring performances in The Collector and The Collection, but with The Hunted, he aims to make waves not only as an actor, but also as a screenwriter and director. FEARnet REVIEW by @scottEweinberg

September 16, 2014 | 0 Comments

By Scott E Weinberg Josh Stewart’s The Hunted will, if nothing else, provide you with a sure answer to this question: “do I actually like found footage horror movies?” Oh sure, you’ve seen the “studio” examples like Cloverfield, Quarantine, and the various Paranormal Activity films — and since you’re reading FEARnet it’s a safe bet you’ve seen some of the foreign-language goodies like [REC] and the original Silent House… but […]

ABOUT THE FILM

THE HUNTED follows family-man and hunter Jake, played by Josh Stewart, alongside his best friend Stevie as they journey deep into the Appalachians of West Virginia on the hunt for a renowned, massive buck. Chasing their dream of landing a television hunting show, the duo head into the dense, secluded mountains armed with only their bows and camera equipment. Given a timeframe of just a few days to win over producers with the legendary kill the friends quickly realize there is something else that stirs within the woods. Something that turn-by-turn begins to hunt them…

After months on the high-budget set of The Dark Knight Rises, Stewart needed a breeze of change – something to spark his creativity and bring his talent home. The script for THE HUNTED materialized from this desire and led him down the path to his very first endeavor directing. Growing up in rural West Virginia, Stewart spent much of his youth fly-fishing and hunting in the sprawling woods where THE HUNTED found its home.

“THE HUNTED is based on a true story that actually happened to me and my roommate /best friend back in college,” said Stewart. “It’s a story I have always wanted to tell. Creatively I was just looking for something that would be a true testament to filmmaking while telling a story through something I’ve been doing my whole life, hunting. .. There’s something to be said for the shift back to telling a cool story to make a film work.”

In rounding out that crew of dedicated people, Stewart approached long-time friends Brett Forbes and Patrick Rizzotti of Fortress Features about producing the film immediately. The trio first worked together beginning in 2009 as Stewart starred in horror features The Collector and The Collection.

An outdoorsman at heart, Stewart was no stranger to the simplistic world they inhabited during the shoot. After working all over the world, the genuine nostalgic experience of coming home to film in his own backyard was invaluable. His love for the region created focus on making all elements of the film realistic enough to appeal to fellow hunters. Everything from the equipment, apparel and even safety measures were true to form – a quality only found on hunting shows not in fictional work.

Before shooting began, the filmmakers reached out to the most respective hunting brands in the industry in order to make the film. Industry brand leaders, BowTech Archery, Realtree, Scentblocker, Trophy Ridge, Leuopold and Cabellas quickly signed on to be a part of the project because of Stewart’s efforts to not sensationalize the sport.
